⚡What is an O-PEN Fault?
O-PEN stands for Open-Protective Earth & Neutral and is a fault condition that can occur in the electrical supply to your property. 🏠
While these faults are incredibly rare, they can be dangerous.
Indra chargers have built in O-PEN Fault protection called PESTs which is designed to identify an O-PEN fault and stop charging before it becomes unsafe.
One of the ways the charger does this, is in accordance with BS7671 Amendment 4, Regulation 722.411.4.1 indent (iv), which requires the charger to check the supply voltage and disconnect from the car if it goes above 253V or below 207V.
🔴Flashing Red Light
When the charger detects an over or under voltage, it will disconnect from the vehicle and show a flashing red light on the front of the charger. 🚗🔌
When the over or under voltage event clears and returns to normal, the charger will continue to charge again.
⚠️Nuisance O-PEN Fault Events
If your charger is experiencing over or under voltage events regularly, this could be because the supply to your property is on the high side, not because the charger is seeing an actual O-PEN Fault. 🏠
There are two ways nuisance events can be resolved:
Contact your local DNO and explain that you are experiencing regular over or under voltage events.
The DNO may carry out an electrical assessment and make changes to your supply if the voltage is outside acceptable limits. They should monitor the supply over several days, as voltage can vary throughout the day. If the supply is within limits, they may refer you back to your installer to assess the suitability of the device installed.Approach your installer and discuss the option of configuring your Indra charger into PEST Mode A with a reference electrode. There are instructions on how to do this in the installer resources found here.
